SPC organised annual Health, Safety & Environmental Campaign online with show of commitment to SMM and WSH 

The Singapore Petrochemical Complex (SPC), supported by the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council, launched its annual Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Campaign on 8 July 2020. SPC’s Campaign was streamed online on its Facebook, in support of the government’s call for Safe Management Measures (SMM) to counter
COVID-19. 

The Campaign theme ‘Health is the Greatest Wealth’ reaffirmed the strong commitment of SPC and its group of nine companies, as well as their contractors and vendors, to take the lead in sustaining good WSH systems and practices in the petrochemical industry. Due to the pandemic, this year’s Campaign broadened to include managing COVID-19 at the workplaces.

Mr Tokumoto Kazuya, Managing Director of Denka Singapore Pte Ltd, delivered the opening address, where he highlighted the importance of communication, and how it plays a key role in upholding safety during this period of time. He also shared that employers and employees should always be conscious of one another’s safety at the workplace, so that they may go home to their families safely.

Mr John Ng, Chairman of the WSH Council, gave the keynote address and reminded both employers and employees of the Complex that WSH must take priority during this momentous time. Before work commences, employers should conduct proper risk assessments, establish safe work procedures, and ensure that workers had been adequately trained and briefed.   

He also commended the companies within the Complex for doing their part in keeping their workers safe and healthy through the implementation of SMM to curb the risk of
re-emergence of COVID-19 cases. Finally, he encouraged employees to participate in the National WSH Campaign’s persona quiz to find out how healthy they are and which aspects of their health that could lead to injuries at work. The quiz is part of the National WSH Campaign to emphasise the need to set aside time for one’s health so as to build a safer and healthier workforce at the workplace.

Scam Alert: Public Advisory on Misuse of SnapSAFE by Scammers Impersonating Local Bank Staff

MOM has been alerted to cases of members of the public receiving unsolicited phone calls from scammers impersonating local bank staff. The scammers would inform their victims that their bank accounts have been “deactivated”, “suspended”, or “frozen” by MOM.

To support this claim, the scammers would misuse the SnapSAFE application to send a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS to the victim’s phone. The SMS would appear to be sent by “MOM”. The victims were then deceived into sharing with the scammers their personal details, bank details and respective banks’ OTP.

MOM does not deactivate, suspend or freeze bank accounts. The SnapSAFE application is developed solely for members of the public to report workplace safety and health issues to MOM. OTPs triggered by the SnapSAFE application are for login purposes only.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, members of public who receive such calls should adopt the following measures:

MOM takes such incidents seriously. We have been working closely with Singapore Police Force on investigations and will continue to do so to prevent further cases.
